As of yesterday, January 27th 2025, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memorandum temporarily pausing federal financial assistance—grants, loans, and cooperative agreements—effective immediately. While an injunction has been filed, we want to share how this decision may affect the free services we provide to our six-county region in Northeast Montana.
Federal funding supports critical programs at GNDC, including Small Business Development, EPA Brownfields, USDA, and Economic Development Administration Planning Grants. These programs play a vital role in fostering small business growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life in our communities.
At this time (Tuesday, January 28th), we are monitoring the situation closely, but this pause threatens to disrupt our ability to offer the no-cost services and resources that drive economic development and support businesses in our region. It could also create a ripple effect, impacting local jobs, infrastructure projects, and economic stability across Northeast Montana.
We remain committed to our mission and the communities we serve. We encourage individuals to reach out to their elected officials and express how federal financial assistance is vital to rural Montana’s future.
